Title: Waves Of Loss Limited Edtion
Author: MUHAMMAD-JUMA ABBAS
At the heart of Abbas Muhammad-Juma’s third year design project is a story of struggle, loss, survival and culture.
The 21-year-old’s final year project, an autobiography called Waves of Loss, documents his family’s journey from Afghanistan to Pakistan and then to New Zealand.
Muhammad-Juma studied a bachelor of design at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington.
The story is something Muhammad-Juma had always wanted to share to a wider audience. But the main driver for putting his family history to paper was to share his memories of life in Pakistan with his younger siblings.
“I see my siblings that grew up here so young, they kind of lost their language and their culture.”
The autobiography is a commentary on his experience as a refugee, his journey to finding a safe place and the challenges that come when you try to adapt to a new country.
This is a beautiful limited edition – with a hand stitched cover by the authors mother.
